Battersea is a region of London on the South bank of the Thames directly below Chelsea.  It has a wonderful park, there is always something happening at this royal park.  It was opened in 1859 by Queen Victoria and on  bank holidays you can often find funfairs.  There are also tennis courts, a boating lake, a children's zoo, playgrounds, bicycle tracks and a cafe. It's a lovely place to come for a stroll along the river on a clear, dry day. Take a look at the Peace Pagoda where there is a gilt Buddha which was built on the riverside in 1985 and is a memorial to the victims of the Hiroshima bombing.  If you happen to be around to remember the 5th of November, it is possible to enjoy the fireworks of Guy Fawkes Night at the park.  You can find out more about the Childrens Zoo by clicking on the link. 

This area is also home to the Power Station which is now a theme park and shopping centre.  You can also find the famous Battersea Dogs home here and the New Covent Garden Market which is a major fruit and vegetable wholesale market.
