Rostock is the largest city in the Mecklenburg Vorpommern state of Germany. It has an area of 181 square miles and a population of nearly 203,000 residents. Rostock is situated along the Warnow River and on the coast of the Baltic Sea. The city of Rostock was settled in the 11th century by the Polabian Slavs who called it Roztoc, meaning "broadening of a river". Through the years, the spelling of the name of the city got to be Rostock. In present, the city has partnerships with more than 10 cities from Poland, Finland, France, Latvia, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Bulgaria, Croatia, China, USA and Germany.

Kunsthalle Rostock or Rostock Art Gallery is a museum of contemporary art. It opened to public in 1969 and you can visit it near the Schwanenteich Lake. It hosts exhibitions of paintings, photography, sculptures and texts of modern German and international artists.

Marienkirche or Saint Mary's Church is the biggest church in Rostock. It was built in the 13th century and since 1265 it is the parish church of the Protestants living in Rostock. The construction has a Gothic style and the interior was restored by Rudolf Stockmann in 1574, in a Renaissance style.

Warnermunde or Warnow Mouth is a resort in the north of Rostock, located directly on the coast of the Baltic Sea and near the Warnow River. It was settled in 1200 as a fishing village, but since the 1800s it is one of the most beautiful seaside resorts near Rostock.

Kloster zum Heiligen Kreuz or Abbey of the Holy Cross is one of the oldest buildings in Rostock. It was raised in the 13th century thanks to the Cisternian nuns. This is the only abbey in town and in present it host the Museum of Cultural History of the city of Rostock.
