Torre dell'Orologio. In medieval times, as most of the other Italian towns, Mestre was fortified by strong city walls and defending towers. The only thing that survived was the Clock Tower, which dates back to the year 1108. It is the most iconic building in Mestre and the real emblem of the town, located in Piazzaq Feretto, Venice Mestre.
San Lorenzo is a beautiful church located in Venice Mestre, built in 1192 and was a property of the Mestrina community, an ancient institute governed by the local noble families. The current church, with neoclassical facade, erected in the beginning of the 19th century, conserves the Romanesque bell tower, as the only remaining part of the previous construction.
Palazzo della Provvedoria in Venice Mestre, was built in 1452 and inaugurated as a set of the Civic Council. The building was devastated in 1513 and reconstructed in 1525. From the beginning of the 19th century, the palace was home to the Communal School. In 1926, the building was destroyed due to a massive fire, but it was soon reconstructed. Today, the palazetto has a beautiful Romanesque porch and an amazing set of Renaissance windows.
Galleria Matteotti is not as famous as the Galleria Vittoria Emanuele II from Milan, but it is still attractive and unique. The Gallery was built at the beginning of the 19th century and is one of the best shopping areas of Venice Mestre.
