The name of the town refers to the shipwreck of Saint Paul, as referred to in the Acts of the Apostles. Tradition has it that Saint Paul was shipwrecked on the isles in St Paul's Bay called St. Paul's Isles. According to the 2010 census, St Paul's Bay has a total population of 14,057 residents and spans on a total area of 5.6 square miles (14.5 sq km).

Top Attractions within St Paul's Bay

St. Paul's Island, also known as Selmunett, is a small island close to St Paul's Bay, being also the largest inhabited island of Malta. Supposedly, this is where St. Paul was shipwrecked, as described in the Acts of the Apostles. There is a prominent statue of St. Paul standing on the island, which was erected in 1845.

Gnejna Bay is an amazing place near St Paul's Bay. The bay is renowned for its striking clay slopes and limestone cliffs, which are surrounded by sandy beaches. The bay is also home to one of the few remaining perennial freshwater springs in Malta. Fishing is also popular in the area.

Malta's Car Ruts, a complex network of tracks gouged in rocks, can be seen at the Misrah Ghar il-Kbir prehistoric site, on the heritage trail close to St Paul's Bay on the Wardija Ridge. The ridge is a very scenic plateau, beautifully landscaped, and considered to be an area of ecological importance.
