Staines formerly Stanes is a town within the district of Spelthorne, shire county of Surrey, South East Region, England, United Kingdom. It lies along the banks of River Thames southwest of London's Charing Cross. Its earliest known history dates back the Roman times when the soldiers of Emperor Claudius stayed within the town sometime in 43 A.D in response to the emperor's order of invading Britain.
