Bristol Airport, the launching point for many tourist destinations in Wales and Southwest England, was started by a bunch of businessmen as a flying club in 1927 called the Filton Aerodrome. Little did these business know that years later it would be this spot where the Concorde would be invented. Today, the airport has grown to serve over 3.8 million passengers each year and is still growing.
Driving to Wales from London can be a drag. It feels like the M4 will never end, even when there are no traffic jams! A better idea is to fly into Bristol Airport, hire a car and jump over the bridge into the lovely countryside of Wales. Bristol is just on the border between England and Wales. This way will give you more time being a tourist in Wales and less time driving in your rental car. Keep in mind that when you do cross over the Bridge, there can be severe crosswinds. At times the winds are so fierce, they feel like they can lift your hire car right off the of bridge. But don't be alarmed, Bridge Administration keeps a keen eye on these winds and close the bridge if they feel it is too dangerous.
