You want to go to the Lake District but don't like the idea of taking public transportation to get there? Or you want to drive but don't feel like taking the 8 hour journey up from London. Why not fly into Manchester Airport, pick up a car rental at Manchester Airport and drive over to the beautiful Lake District.

If you rent a car at Manchester Airport, the Lake District is a hop, skip and a jump from Manchester Airport. Follow the M6, exit at Junction 36. Follow the A590 & A591 to Windermere and Ambleside. The Lake District Visitor Centre is approximately half way between Windermere and Ambleside on the west side of the A591 and is well signposted.

From there, you can use any of the Lake District Shuttles to get around to the over 2000 square kilometres of villages, hills, dales, fells, tide pools and beaches--whatever takes your fancy.
