Stansted Airport has become a low cost airline hub, making it covenient place to land, hire a car and become a tourist in London, Herefordshire Cambridgeshire and Essex. Why not fly into Stansted, pick up a great deal on Stansted Airport car hire and take the family just up the road to Audley End House which is just a quick 15 minute drive from the airport. Cambridge is just 30 minutes from Stansted and London is about a 40 minute drive down the M11. But whether you are hiring a car or getting on a train or in a cab, you need to plan your journey wisely.

When arriving at Stansted on one of the low cost airlines, it will take about 15-20 minutes to get to the main terminal from the gate. If you are coming from Europe, you will need to go through customs and immigration which adds another 20-30 minutes as well. Getting away from the airport

For most of us, the M11 is the best way to get to where you are going from Stansted airport. I know that for people going to Colchester, Braintree and Chelmsford, the new A130 is superb (unless you are stuck in rush hour traffic), but the M11 takes the bulk of the airport traffic at this time and it seems to be permanently under contruction. The 40 mile an hour speed limit and the speed cameras through the construction backs up even the lightest traffic. My advice is to use the AA traffic website to get a feel for how much extra time will be needed to get you to the plane on time.
