Alamo Terms & Conditions

The below T&Cs (including prices and taxes) are provided by Alamo and may change without notice to VroomVroomVroom.

These terms and conditions are applicable to Avis rentals in the UK ONLY.

This quote will include:

  • Selected vehicle or similar
  • Unlimited Kilometers unless otherwise stated
  • Third Party Liability
  • Theft Liability Waiver
  • Vehicle Licensing fee
  • VAT
  • Premium Location Surcharge

This quote will not include:

  • Collision Damage Waiver
  • Excess Reduction. Please see our Excess Reduction Guide for further details.
  • Personal Accident Insurance
  • Rates for additional drivers
  • Any extra equipment such as GPS and baby seats*
  • Age surcharge
  • Petrol
  • One way drop off fees
  • Any Deposits needed when picking up the vehicle
  • Any extra charges for "out of hours" pick up and drop offs if applicable

* All extra add-ons will attract additional percentage taxes and surcharges.

Alamo Excess Reduction Guide

VroomVroomVroom does not sell protection products or excess reduction packages, therefore any quotes/enquiries MUST be directed to Alamo.

  • Extended loss damage waiver is available (including theft insurance) for £15 per day + Tax. This reduces your excess to £0.
  • Third Party Liability is included in the rates and provided unlimited cover to third party bodily injury only. The limit for Property Damage is equivalent to EUR 100 million (approx £88 million). Excess above this is the responsibility of the driver.

Varies by age of renter, location, type of vehicle and rate. Note: ER does not cover certain loss or damage and cannot be waived in full. Please contact Alamo for further insurance information, specialty cars differ in excess. Subject to the Alamo Terms and Conditions.

General rental conditions:

  • The renter must have a valid driving licence held for a minimum of 1 year.
  • The renter must meet the minimum/maximum age requirements
  • If intending to pay by cash, the renter must have a return airline ticket (excluding UK), a verifiable home phone number in the name of the renter, proof of employment and must provide a cash deposit in addition to prepaying all rental charges
  • All car rental companies at Stansted Airport require a finger print to be taken.

In the UK a secondary form of identification is required. Accepted forms if identification are:

  • Passport
  • Alternative credit or debit card
  • Building Society Deposit Book/Statement
  • Evidence of place of employment

Age Restrictions

Minimum rental age is 25 years for car groups Standard and Fullsize, 23 for car groups, compact and intermediate
21 years for car groups Mini and Economy.
A young drivers surcharge applies as follows:
21-22 years GBP 14.00 per day plus VAT, 23-24 years GBP 9.95 per day plus VAT. There is no maximum charge.
There is no upper age limit except at Pembroke, and Carmarthen where the age limit is 75 years. Plymouth, Exeter, Newquay Taunton, Wigan, Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich the upper age limit is 70 years. Wigan has a minimum age requirement of 25.

Credit Cards & Payments

National Charge cards, all major Credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, Diners, American Express), debit cards (excluding Maestro and Solo Debit Cards) and Cash payments permitted on all car groups, except executive cars (FXAR & SSAR). Cash is not accepted at the following locations: Aberystwyth, Basingstoke, Birkenhead, Carmarthen, Leeds, Pembroke & Swindon. All locations (excluding Aberystwyth, Basingstoke, Birkenhead, Carmarthen, Leeds, Pembroke & Swindon) within normal working hours will accept a cash deposit at the discretion of the station manager and with a copy of customers passport and airline ticket. Travellers Cheques are acceptable in £ sterling only. Customers will be charged for loss of vehicle keys @ £140.00.

Renters will be asked for the following deposits: 1) The estimated cost of the rental 2) A £250 Security Deposit. (The £250 deposit is not linked to the amount of the renter’s damage or theft liability excess and is required on all rentals). Please note: All first time consumer customers who present a foreign driving licence and have a UK address will be required to pay a deposit of £500.00 (rather than £250.00). Cash renters resident in the U.K. will be subject to a credit check by Equifax, and must provide either a NEW style driving licence complete with counterpart or an OLD style licence plus a full valid Passport. Non-UK resident Inbound renters paying by cash will need to produce their passport, dated return flight ticket and full driving licence that meets the criteria set out in the Licence requirements section. Cash renters cannot expect to receive a refund of their deposits in cash and cheque refunds can take up to 28 days. The refund will probably take the form of a Sterling cheque which will be posted to their home address.

General Insurance Conditions

Collision Damage Waiver - eliminates all financial responsibility for the rental vehicle to the sum of the deductible (£800). CDW costs as follows: 1 - 2 days £9.17 + tax per day, 3 - 6 days £7.50 + tax per day, 7+ days £6.67 + tax per day. Please note: the insurance excess is increased by £400.00 for under 25's at the following locations: Aberystwyth, Pembroke, Carmarthen and Llanelli.

Please refer to the rental agreement, rental jacket and any underlying policies for complete terms and conditions.

Third Party Liability (TPL)

Third Party Liability is included in the rates and provided unlimited cover to third party bodily injury only. The limit for Property Damage is equivalent to EUR 100 million (approx £88 million). Excess above this is the responsibility of the driver.

Theft Liability Waiver (TLW)

Theft Waiver if purchased, eliminates all financial responsibility for the rented vehicle to the sum of the deductible (£800). THW costs as follows: 1 - 2 days £9.17 + tax per day, 3 - 6 days £7.50 + tax per day, 7+ days £6.67 + tax per day. Please note: the insurance excess is increased by £400.00 for under 25's at the following locations: Aberystwyth, Pembroke, Carmarthen and Llanelli.

Value Cover: Reduces excess to zero for any damage to Windscreen, Glass or tyres (does not include lamps or damage past these items). Value Cover costs £5.00 + tax per day.

For drivers aged between 21 and 25 (*21-23 years at London Croydon South & **21-30 years at Bradford), Value Cover cannot be purchased to waive the excess at the following locations: London Lewisham, London Kings Cross, London Fulham, London Marble Arch, London Kennington, London Croydon South* and Bradford**. In these cases the full CDW/DW excess is always applicable.

Value Cover Plus: Purchasing Value Cover Plus gives the customer all the benefits of Value Cover with the further benefit of satellite navigation at half the usual price. Value Cover Plus costs £7.50 + tax per day. Value Cover Plus is only available to purchase at the counter.

For drivers aged between 21 and 25 (*21-23 years at London Croydon South & **21-30 years at Bradford), Value Cover cannot be purchased to waive the excess at the following locations: London Lewisham, London Kings Cross, London Fulham, London Marble Arch, London Kennington, London Croydon South* and Bradford**. In these cases the full CDW/DW excess is always applicable.

SPAEC – Super Personal Accident and Baggage Cover - Cover for personal injury and death up to £100,000, medical expenses up to £3,000 and baggage up to £3,000. Price is £7.00 per day. SPAEC is not subject to VAT.

Mastercover Plus - Reduces the excess to Zero and includes one additional driver. Mastercover Plus costs as follows: 1 - 2 days £12.50 + tax per day, 3 - 6 days £11.67 + tax per day, 7 - 27 days £9.17 + tax per day, 28+ days £7.50 + tax per day.

For drivers aged between 21 and 25 (*21-23 years at London Croydon South & **21-30 years at Bradford), Mastercover Plus (Risk Reduction Cover) cannot be purchased to waive the excess at the following locations: London Lewisham, London Kings Cross, London Fulham, London Marble Arch, London Kennington, London Croydon South* and Bradford**. In these cases the full CDW/DW excess is always applicable.

Risk Reduction Plus - Reduces the excess to Zero, includes one additional driver and Satellite Navigation. Risk Reduction Plus costs as follows: 1 - 2 days £16.67 + tax per day, 3 - 6 days £15.00 + tax per day, 7+ days £12.50 + tax per day. Risk Reduction Plus is only available to purchase at the counter.

For drivers aged between 21 and 25 (*21-23 years at London Croydon South & **21-30 years at Bradford), Risk Reduction Cover Plus cannot be purchased to waive the excess at the following locations: London Lewisham, London Kings Cross, London Fulham, London Marble Arch, London Kennington, London Croydon South* and Bradford**. In these cases the full CDW/DW excess is always applicable.

Peace of Mind - Reduces the excess to Zero, includes CDW, THW and one additional driver. Peace of Mind costs as follows: 1 - 2 days £22.50 + tax per day, 3 - 6 days £19.17 + tax per day, 7+ days £15.00 + tax per day. Peace of Mind is only available to purchase at the counter.

For drivers aged between 21 and 25 (*21-23 years at London Croydon South & **21-30 years at Bradford), Peace of Mind cannot be purchased to waive the excess at the following locations: London Lewisham, London Kings Cross, London Fulham, London Marble Arch, London Kennington, London Croydon South* and Bradford**. In these cases the full CDW/DW excess is always applicable.

Peace of Mind Plus - Reduces the excess to Zero, includes CDW, THW, one additional driver and Satellite Navigation. Peace of Mind Plus costs as follows: 1 - 2 days £26.67 + tax per day, 3 - 6 days £23.33 + tax per day, 7+ days £19.17 + tax per day. Peace of Mind Plus is only available to purchase at the counter.

For drivers aged between 21 and 25 (*21-23 years at London Croydon South & **21-30 years at Bradford), Peace of Mind Plus cannot be purchased to waive the excess at the following locations: London Lewisham, London Kings Cross, London Fulham, London Marble Arch, London Kennington, London Croydon South* and Bradford**. In these cases the full CDW/DW excess is always applicable.

Additional Drivers

For the following airport Locations: Aberdeen Airport, Belfast City Airport, Belfast Int Airport, Birmingham Airport, Cardiff Airport, East Midlands Airport, Edinburgh Airport, Glasgow Airport, Inverness Airport, Leeds/Bradford Airport, Liverpool Airport, London City Airport, London Gatwick Airport, London Heathrow Airport, Luton Airport, Manchester Airport, Newcastle Airport, Prestwick Airport and Stansted Airport: £6.67 per day + VAT per additional driver, with no maximum charge.

For all other Locations: £5.83 per day + VAT per additional driver, with no maximum charge.

Additional drivers must be over 21. All additional drivers must meet the age and license requirements.

Cross Border Policy (UK originated rentals)

Vehicles may be taken abroad but renters will be required to purchase the Europdrive Package (Overseas Breakdown Cover) which costs as follows: 1-2 days = £33.33 + VAT per rental, 3-5 days = £41.67 + VAT per rental, 6-7 days = £58.33 + VAT per rental, 8-13 days = £83.33 + VAT per rental, 14-20 days = £95.83 + VAT per rental, 21-27 days = £104.17 + VAT per rental, 28-34 days = £112.50 + VAT per rental, 35-41 days = £120.83 + VAT per rental, 42+ days = £129.17 + VAT per rental. The Europdrive Package is only available to purchase at the counter and applies to vehicles going to the Republic of Ireland also. Any vehicle rented (irrespective of insurance cover) requires written permission from Alamo/National by means of obtaining a completed VE103 form prior to departure. Countries which you are allowed to travel to are:Andorra, Austria, Belgium , Denmark , Finland , France , Germany , Gibraltar , Ireland , Iceland , Italy , Litchenstein , Luxembourg , Netherlands , Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. Cars may not be driven into any countries outside those listed above.

The following vehicles are not allowed to be taken overseas: PDAR, PWAR and LDAR.

Please be advised that due to a change in law in Germany, it is mandatory for all vehicles crossing the border into Germany to have winter tyres fitted during the Snow & Icy conditions. Customers will be fined on the spot if they are stopped by police and found to not have the appropriate winter tyres. We do not supply winter tyres and any customer wishing to fit winter tyres must do so at their own cost and ensure that the rental vehicle is returned in the same condition as supplied without winter tyres.

One Way rentals

One way rentals are permitted within Mainland UK but are subject to a drop charge of £40.00 inc VAT (£33.33 + tax).

A penalty charge of £150.00 will apply to all rentals dropping off a one way rental into St Pancras (this also includes all London stations).

One way rentals are not allowed for drop off at Southampton Port (SOUP71), however one way pick ups are allowed from this location.

One- ways between Mainland U.K. and Northern Ireland are permitted and cost as follows: £150.00 + VAT.

The following conditions apply for Northern Ireland:

People carriers (IVMR & FVMR) and automatic vehicles (CCAR, SDAR, PDAR, PWAR, LDAR) are not allowed to be used for one way rentals from Northern Ireland to the Republic of Ireland or UK Mainland.

GPS must not be left in vehicles terminating in any location in the Republic of Ireland or UK Mainland stations. The full loss of deposit will apply.

One-ways are not permitted between the Mainland U.K. and the Republic of Ireland.

One-Ways between Derry and Belfast locations = £40.00 + VAT. One-ways between all other Northern Ireland locations are free of charge.

One-way rentals are permitted from any Northern Ireland location to the following locations in the Republic of Ireland:- to Dublin = £150.00 + VAT. To: Cork, Knock and Shannon = £450.00 + VAT.

All one way rentals to and from UK Mainland into Northern Ireland are subject to availability.

International one-ways are NOT permitted

Additional equipment

GPS units are available at a cost of £9.17 + VAT per day with a maximum charge of £91.67 + tax per rental. A £250.00 deposit is required. GPS is available from all locations. Please refer to the One Way Rentals policy for details with regards to GPS and one ways from Northern Ireland.

Child/Infant seats (CSI) are available and cost as follows: (all locations) £9.17 + VAT per day, with a maximum charge of £64.17 + VAT per rental. A security deposit of £50.00 (replacement amount) is required for each seat, which will be refunded to the renter upon return of the child- check-in.

We offer one type of Infant seat, which is the Britax Baby Safe Child Seat, suitable for ages 0 to 9 months, which is approved to British Standards.

Child/Toddler seats (CST) are available and cost as follows: (all locations) £9.17 + VAT per day, with a maximum charge of £64.17 + VAT per rental. A security deposit of £50.00 (replacement amount) is required for each seat, which will be refunded to the renter upon return of the child- check-in.

We offer one type of toddler seat, which is the Britax Eclipse Child Seat, suitable for ages 9 months to 4 years, which is approved to British Standards.

Booster cushions (BST) are available and cost as follows: (all locations) £5.00 + VAT per day, with a maximum charge of £35.00 + VAT per rental. There is no deposit payable.

We offer two types of booster seats: The Britax Adventurer (which has a back support) and the Britax Horizon (which is without a back support). Both are suitable for 4+ years.

All requests for a child/booster seats must be stated at the time of reservation.

All child seats/Booster Seats are on freesale. Customers will be required to fit the child seat/booster seat themselves.

This country does not provide reflective jackets and is not required by law to do so.

Fuel

All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel and it is the customer's responsibility to return the vehicle full or pay for any missing fuel at the end of rental. On rentals of 4 days or longer we recommend that you add the cost of a full tank of fuel to our rental charges at time of pick up. This method eliminates the need for you to refuel the tank prior to returning. The fuel amount charged at time of rental will be based on a market competitive price and the car model rented. We are unable to issue a refund for unused fuel. A fuel deposit is not required.
