Lens is a charming commune of Communaupole de Lens Lievin, Lens arrondissement, Pas-de-Calais department, Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, France. Lens is one of the largest Picarde cities, like Lille, Amines, Douai, Arras, Roubaix, Tourcoing and Valenciennes. The town of Lens has a population of about 36,000 residents and an area of 12 square kilometers, being located at an altitude of approximately 89 meters. Notable former or present residents of Lens include ex-mayor Emile Basly, football player Kevin Boli, Tour de France winner Maurice Garin and Countes of Shaftensbury Jamila M'Barek. Lens Church is one of the most beautiful churches in the area. It was built in the 17th century and is still perfectly standing. Most of the religious event of the Lens community take place in this church. It is located in the city center of Lens and is one of the greatest attractions of the town, being photographed very often.

Canadian National Vimy Memorial is a memorial site that you can visit nearby Lens, in Vimy. This is dedicated to the Canadian Expeditionary Force, a part of the men in the army that died in France in World War I. As they had no known grave, this monument was raised in their memory in 1936, after a design made by Walter Seymour Allward. The memorial was raised in the remembrance of a total of 60,000 people.

Vimy Town Hall is a great building to see. This beautiful town hall located a few kilometers away of Lens is actually the remain of a former castle. The castle was raised in the 1200s, but it was destroyed partially in 1833. The part that is still standing is used in our times as the city hall.
