Egelsbach is a small, yet very charming community in the Offenbach district in the Regierungsbezirk of Darmstadt, in Hesse Germany. In 1275 Egelsbach had its first documentary mention. The village then belonged to the Lords of Flakenstein. In 1526, the Reformation was introduced in Egelsbach. Since the middle of the 19th century, Egelsbach has been part of the Offenbach district. In 1873, the village got its own railway station on the Frankfurt am Main line, and in 1955 the airport was built. The main landmarks are either in Egelsbach or in the neighbouring city of Frankfurt.

The Goethe House in Frankfurt, near Egelsbach was the family residence of the Goethe Family, most notably Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, until 1795. Goethe was born here. The house was destroyed during Allied bombing on May 22, 1944, but was restored after the war between 1947 and 1951, as closely as possible to its original condition and furnishing, giving an insight into what life was like for the great Goethe.
