Wachtberg is a municipality in the Rhein Sieg district, of North Rhine Westphalia, Germany. Wachtberg is situated approximately 15 km south of Bonn. In 2005 the Wachtberg community had approximately 20.000 inhabitants. The municipality was formed in 1969 as a merger of 13 now incorporated villages. The town-hall is in the village of Berkum, approximately in the centre of the area. Wachtberg municipality is named after another volcanic mountain, the Wachtberg that is situated near the centre of the municipality.The main landmarks of the city are the three castles that are just stunning and worth visiting.

Burg Munchhausen is a wonderful fortress located west of Adendorf, in Wachtberg and is said to have belonged to the monks of the monastery of the German Reich in Prum in the Eifel. The oldest part of the fortress, which has surrounded by water ditches in former times. The free standing tower from the middle of the 13th century stretches the building high up. The angular corner tower of a side wing shows a walled-up round arch under two walled up windows.

Adendorf Castle is another fortress in Wachtberg. The property consists of four towers to comply with the core of the castle and extensive farm buildings, especially bailey. The main castle is used by the owners of Loe, since 1815. The entire property is surrounded by a moat and was renovated in recent years, funded by the German Foundation for Monument Protection. The castle is a wonderful landmark that must not be missed, if you are in the surrounding area.

Burh Odenhausen is another castle near Wachtberg situated above Berkum. Nowadays, it is a new housing development adjacent to the former farm buildings of the castle. The castle was built in the 11th century and it was first a moated castle. In 1560, the castle knew a period of Renaissance. The architecture of the castle is diverse, ranging from Middle Age, Renaissance to Baroque. The castle is richly decorated and it is an architectural wonder.
