Most major rental companies from England allow their vehicles to be taken to Northern Ireland, but may also depend on the vehicle you've rented. Information such as the number of people travelling in the vehicle and the names of all drivers are also mandatory. Depending on your supplier and the type of vehicle you have, you will be allowed to cross the border from England to Northern Ireland.

Vehicles are allowed to be taken to Northern Ireland, although the vehicle must be returned to the territory where it was rented.

There is a charge of £125 per rental to take the vehicle to Ireland.

You will not be charged of Continental Cover if visiting Northern Ireland.

Cross border rentals and restrictions

If you wish to take your rental car from England to Northern Ireland, you will be required by law to present form VE103B and an authorisation from your rental supplier. Keep in mind that requirements may vary. A Driving Abroad Fee will apply. This fee includes AA continental cover and can only be purchased at the time of pick up. In addition to that, when leaving the UK on a cross-border rental, most car rental companies require a minimum of two days' notice.
