St Nazaire is a commune in the Loire Atlantique department in western France. St Nazaire has a major harbour, on the right bank of the Loire River estuary, near the Atlantic Ocean. St Nazaire town is at the south of the second largest swamp in France, called la Briere. Given its location, St Nazaire has a long tradition of fishing and shipbuilding. Archaeologists beleive that St Nazaire is built upon the remnants of Corbilo, an Armorican Gaulish city populated by the Nannetes tribe, which was the second largest Gaulish city, after Marseille. Escal'Atlantic in St Nazaire is an Ocean Liner simulation exhibition and is very interesting. Tourists can see that a lot of effort has been made to make the most of the nearby water. There is also a half submerged Second World II submarine and has the benefit of being the real thing. Visitors have the chance of seeing the inside of a submarine. The inside is largely intact with only a few torpedo tubes removed to allow easy access to the torpedo area at one end. There are also audio guides and no restrictions on taking photos.

Les Chantiers Navals St Nazaire is one of the biggest shipyards in St Nazaire and it provides a wonderful experience for both adults and children. There are two cruise ships that are not yet completed, but can be visited by afar by tourists. It is a wonderful experience that sheds light on the naval history of the area, by means of photographs, newspaper articles and other documents.

Saint Marc Beach is located a few kilometres from St Nazaire. If tourists cross the bridge, they have access to other beaches nearby. Aside from Saint Marc Beach, there are other great beaches where you can spend the afternoon dozing off under the sun. There is a range of several creeks, where there is little crowds and where tourists can enjoy a peaceful and tranquil time.
