Car Hire Donauwoerth

Donauwoerth is a beautiful city in Germany, located more exactly within the Bavaria state, in the Swabia region and the Donau-Ries district. The history of Donauwoerth is based on a legend according to which the city was founded by 2 fishermen where the Donau (Danube) and Wornitz rivers meet. Regardless of this story, Donauwoerth has a historical relevance for Germany, since it was the site of one of the incidents that led to the Thirty Years' War. According to the 2010 census, Donauwoerth has a total population of 18,240 residents and spans on a total area of 29.74 square miles (77.02 sq km). Donauwoerth is also part of the Romantische StraSe (Romantic Road).

Top Attractions within Donauwoerth

The Heilig Kreuz Kirche (Holy Cross Church) is one of the most beautiful and old landmarks of Donauwoerth. The church was built between 1717 and 1722 and was designed by Josef Schmuzer. The beautiful church is characterized by an amazing Baroque architectural style, but it also features other architectural elements such as frescoes and rich stucco ornaments.

Ried is an island in the Wornitz River that passes through Donauwoerth. Originally, Ried was only inhabited by fishermen. The population on the island is still poor, but very nice and friendly. When on the island, make sure to visit the House of the High Sea building (Haus zum Hohen Meer) and the red house that houses a small yet interesting museum (Heimatmuseum) filled with interesting information on the local history and culture. Make sure that you also try the charming Italian restaurants.

ReichsstraSe (the Main Street) is the main boulevard in the city. The street actually resembles a market, extending between the town hall, the parish church and the Fugger House. The street is filled with shops, boutiques, coffee houses and restaurants where you will certainly enjoy a satisfying meal, such as Goldener Hirsch.
