The castle was the largest country palace in Europe at the times when it served as the residence of the duke of Zweibrucken. Today, the castle is owned by the Karlsberg brewery.

The Schlossberg Hohlen (Schlossberg Caves) is another representative symbol of Homburg, being actually the largest sandstone cave in Europe. The huge red sandstone buildings are truly impressive. The caves are an important tourist destination for the city, especially now that they are open for visitation once again.
