Husum is a small and charming town, with a population of a little over 22,000 residents and an area of 25.82 square kilometers. The town is also known as Husem in North Frisian, a rare language still spoken in this area of the country. Husum was first mentioned in documents in 1252, as Husembro, and its present name was only adopted in the early 15th century, being mentioned like this in 1409. Raritaten der Klaviermusik is a famous piano music festival. This international event, based on the delicate music made by classic pianos is a tradition of Husum. It started in 1986, thanks to Peter Froundjian, a local music passionate that loved the pianos.The festival takes place each year since then, in the town's castle.

Schiffahrtsmuseum Nordfriesland is the shipping museum of the city of Husum. You can visit it at 15 Zingel Strasse. It hosts a wonderful collection of ships, the oldest being perfectly kept from the Middle Ages. The newest ships are recently built and offer a modern interpretation about life on the sea in this area of Germany.

Theodor Storm Haus is the former home of novelist Theodor Storm, one of the sons of Husum. He is the one that named the city "gray town by the sea", a nickname that Husum still has today. This house is his birthplace and is now open to visits, as a museum dedicated to him. You can admire memorabilia and sketches of his published work in it.
