Merseburg is a town in the south of the German state of Saxony Anhalt on the river Saale. It is the capital of the Saalekreis district. Merseburg was first mentioned in 850, when King Henry the Fowler built a royal palace at Merseburg. Merseburg Cathedral is known is musical circles for its large romantic organ, built by Friedricj Ladegast.
