Velbert is a town in the district of Mettmann in North Rhine Westphalia, Germany. Velbert is well known as the location of the Sender Langenberg transmitter site. The first coat of arms of Velbert was created in 1882 and abolished in local government reform of 1975. It showed the lion of the Counts, later Dukes, of Berg and keys referring to locksmithing, a traditional industry in Velbert. The chevrons in the bit of the key refer to the coat of arms of the lords of Hardenberg, from the coat of arms of Neviges. Although it is small, Velbert has many attractions and local restaurants.

Soon after the collapse of the 160 metre mast, WDR planned a new mast in the form of a guyed grounded steel framework with a height of 170 metres and a cage aerial.

Festung Ehrenbreitstein is a wonderful landmark located near Verlbert. The fortification is located on the same named mountain on the right side of the Rhine opposite to the town of Koblenz. The castle was built as the backbone of the regional fortification system by Prussia between 1817 and 1832 and guarded the middle Rhine region, an area that had been invaded by French troops repeatedly before.

Graswerth is a small, narrow island on the Rhine river, near Velbert. The two kilometre long island is uninhabited and can only be reached by row boat. It is a natural reserve in many rare species of birds live. It is a wonderful place, where you can relax and have a great time outdoors.

Gasthof Burgerstube is located in Velbert and it is a wonderful restaurant, that provides traditional menu in a very pleasant ambiance. The ingredients used to prepare the dishes are fine and fresh. The service is good and the food is delicious.
