Viersen is the capital of the district of Viersen, in North Rhine Westphalia, Germany. Viersen is made up of three cities, which combined in 1970, and one former village, Boisheim, which combined with Viersen in 1968. The companies Mars Incorporated and the Kaiser's Tengelman AG Supermakets are situated in one of the industrial districts named Dulken Mackenstein. There are many festival and cultural events that takes place in Viersen, such as the International Jazz Festival, Big Carnival Parades, flea markets, International Biker Meeting and the Eier&Speck Festival.

The Viersen Sculpture Collection belongs to the major sculpture parks in Germany and is located in the centre of Viersen. The Viersen Sculpture Collection was built up during the last 25 years by the donation of the American businessman and former Viersen citizen William Pohl. A special attraction within the collection is the bronze Articulated Column by the English artist Tony Cragg, which was created especially for the park.

Bismark Tower in Viersen was erected in honour of the chancellor Otto von Bismarck and has since become an icon of the city of Viersen. For scientific, artistic and historical reasons the tower is listed as historical monument. After the restoration the building was reopened to the public in 2003. Since then you can see inside an exhibition of historical postcards on the subject of Bismarck Towers all over the world.

The Municipal Art Gallery of Viersen is located in a fine old town house making an impressive home for the gallery, with its valuable colelction of graphic reproduction. It is surrounded by a beautiful park with huge old trees housing the sculpture collection. The high quality of the exhibitions taking place several times a year attracts visitors from the lower Rhine area as well as other countries.

Dulkener Schoppenmarkt is one of the largest and oldest country fairs or Krammarkte in Western Germany. The fair takes places on Ash Wednesday following carnival from 8.00 in the morning until 8.00 in the evening in the centre of the town. There is food, music and great atmosphere.
