Wetzlar is in the Lahn Dill Kreis district, in the Giessen administrative region, Hesse state of Germany. It is situated on the Lahn River and on the German Timber Framework Road. Near Wetzlar you can also visit Giessen, Limburg an der Lahn, Siegen, Marburg, Frankfurt am Main and Koblenz. Unfortunately, the exact date when the city of Wetzlar was settled is not known, but archaeologists that worked in the area were able to determine that people lived on this territory since 5,000 BC. There are also Roman remains in Wetzlar, leading to the conclusion that at some point, this was a Roman town. Top Attractions within Wetzlar

Altstadt is the historic old town of Wetzlar. It is filled with beautiful half-timbered homes and stone constructions. Most of them bear a Gothic, Romanesque or Baroque style. In the 18th century, the city center was restored and since then it is beautifully preserved. Around it you can visit Butter Market, Iron Market or Grain Market, all these being names of public squares.

Alte Lahnbrucke is one of the oldest building in town. It was mentioned in documents in 1288 for the first time, meaning it was raised sometime in the early or mid 13th century. It was used as a town hall for many years and in present it is one of the great attractions of Wetzlar.

Wetzlar Cathedral is one of the largest churches in the town of Wetzlar. Its construction began in the 13th century, but the building is still not finished. Because it took a lot of time to raise it, the church bears 3 different architecture styles: Baroque, Gothic and Romanesque.
