Figueras is the capital of the comarca of Alt Emporda, in the province of Giron, Catalonia, Spain. The town is famous for being the birthplace of artist Salvador Dali. Figueras is also the birthplace of Narcis Monturiol i Estarriol, inventor of the first successful machine powered submarine. The name of the town draws its origins from the Visigoths. During the Spanish Civil War, it remained loyal to the Republican government, and was repeatedly bombed by the rebels. Figueres recovered starting from the 1950s, thus consolidating its economy around the tourism industry.

Teatre Museum Gala Salvador Dali

This museum is probably the best known in Figueras and Spain. The heart of the museum was the building that housed the town's theatre when Dali was a child, and where one of the first public exhibition of young Dali's art was shown. It houses the single largest and most diverse collection of works by Salvador Dali, the heart of which was from the artist's own collection. There are Dali sculptures, 3D collages, mechanical devices, and other curiosities from Dali's imagination.

Sant Ferran Castle

The Sat Ferran Castle in Figueras is situated on a hill, at the end of Pujada del Castell. It is a large military fortress built in the 18th century under the orders of several military engineers. The castle occupies an area of 32 ha within a perimeter of 3120m, and cisterns located under the courtyard are able to hold up to 40 million litres of water. The castle has become a landmark in Figueras.

This restaurant is one of the most famous in Figueres. It offers an excellent selection of tapas, typical Basque tapas bar atmosphere, good service and good prices.
