Castillo de San Servando or Castle of Saint Servando is a medieval castle located in Toledo on the Tagus River. It was built in the early 11th century and served as a convent until it was used as a fortress against Muslim attacks. Since 1874, this beautiful attraction of Toledo is considered a national monument and is protected by law.
Sinagoga del Transito or Synagogue of El Transito is another historic building of the city. Samuel ha-Levi established it for the Jewish population, but in 1336 it was transformed in a church, after the expulsion of Jews from the country. It is perfectly conserved and now it is only used as a museum. Since 1877 is a national monument.
Puerta Bab al-Mardum is the oldest city gate of Toledo. It has an Arabic name which means “blocked up” and it used to have a defensive function. It also has a Spanish name, Valmardon, but it just the phonetic imitation of its original Arabic name, which is mainly used.
