Noerdlingen is a town in the Donau Ries district, in Bavaria, Germany, with a population of 20.000. It is located in the middle of a complex meteorite crater, called the Nordlingen Ries. The town was also the place of two battles during the Thirty Years' War. Today it is one of only three towns in Germany that still has a completely established city wall. The Ries crater museum is located in the well preserved medieval tanner's museum. The local sports club, the TSV 1861 Nordlingen, has a very successful basketball department with the men's and women's team both in the Basketball Bundesliga. Nordlingen is also known in popular culture for the fairy tale ballet anime Princess Tutu being set in the fictional Kinkan Town, heavily based on Noerdlingen.

St. Georgkirche in Noerdlingen was built in 1499 and it is one of the largest churches in Germany. Tourists can climb the 90m tower for the best views overlooking the city and the crater. It is a wonderful landmark that must not be missed.

Rieskrater Museum in Noerdlingen is situated in an old barn. This museum shows the impacts of meteor collisions with earth. The exhibits of the museum consist in presentations, photographs and newspaper articles. There is also moon rock, on loan from NASA, is on display.

Bayerisches Eisenbahn Museum in Noerdlingen has more than 100 trains. On Sundays in the summer, you can take a two hour return trip to Dinkelbuhl on an old-fashioned locomotive. Several tracks had to be laid and all the locomotive shed roads connected to the turntable. It is a great place for both children and adults, who will have a lot of fun.

St.Georg Dom is the most striking feature in Noerdlingen on this medieval Gothic church as well as as the 300 foot bell tower, which towers over the village. The Gothic Hall church dates from 15th century. You can also climb the French Gothic tower, where you will benefit from a wonderful view of the whole city.
