Plochingen is a small, yet charming town in the district of Esslingen in Baden Wurttemberg in the southern part of Germany. Plochingen is located at the confluence of rivers Fils and Neckar, 19 km south east of Stuttgart and the Neckar is navigable from here on. Plochingen is one of the main stations on line one of the Stuttgart S Bahn. The public transport here is good, so that even on weekends bus and train connections are very frequent. The Hundertwasserhaus is a unique building, located near Plochingen Railway Station and built in 1922. As this house should no disturb the traditional skyline of the town, the house is rather conventional outside, but has a significant, typical tower. The Mercedes Benz Museum is located near Plochingen, in the city of Stuttgart. The museum is a must see, as it is one of the biggest attractions in the city. Inside, tourists can see a wide range of automobiles and some of the world's oldest cars, including the first model of Mercedes Benz. Wilhelma Zoo is also located in Stuttgart, near Plochingen. Apart from the impressive collection of over 8000 animals, the architecture of this palace turned into a zoo is particularly noteworthy. The Altes Schloss is a wonderful castle located in Stuttgart, near Plochingen. This thousand year old castle is a true gem of the city. Today, the castle houses the State Museum. Its exterior will bring you back to a time of knights and dukes in the Middle Ages.
