Sixt Terms and Conditions - Ireland

Driving Licence Requirements

You and all approved drivers must be in possession of a full, valid driving licence for at least 4 years. Furthermore, the following conditions apply depending on the issuing country of the driving licence.

EU Driving Licences

Valid driving licences of all EU countries are accepted in the UK without further preconditions.

All Other Licences

Driver's license printed with non Roman Alphabet (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Cyrillic etc) must be complemented by an international driver's licence.

For driving licenses from countries not part of the Geneva/ Vienna Convention on Road Traffic (e.g. China), a Self-Translation Form provided by Sixt must be presented with the original license. Link to Self-Translation Form

UK Driving Licences

In addition to your licence, either a valid and up to date DVLA licence check code or a printed DVLA endorsement record must be provided for all Approved Drivers. A valid DVLA code or printed endorsement can be obtained from the DVLA website (www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence). For the validity of the code, please refer to the DVLA guidelines.

Drivers under 23 years of age must not have any endorsements on their licence. For drivers 23 years of age and older, the maximum number of points on the licence is 6. However, some endorsements on your licence may restrict your ability to drive the vehicle, even if you have 6 or less points on your licence. If you or any other driver have any endorsements on your licence, please contact their call centre on 08444 99 33 99 to check if you qualify to drive.

Maximum rental period per rental is 28 days. For rentals more than 28 days please contact reservations@sixt.ie.

Age Restrictions

Certain regulations apply related to minimum age and possession of driver's license which can be found during the booking process depending on the booked vehicle. Basically, the minimum age for every driver is 21 years (having held the driving license for at least 4 years). A deviation from the minimum age is possible depending on the vehicle. In Ireland, the following rules apply for the minimum age and possession of a driver's license:

Drivers over 75 must also produce a doctor's note confirming that they are fit to drive. If these documents cannot be presented, a rental with Sixt Ireland is unfortunately not possible.

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

Collision Damage Waiver removes the drivers responsibility to a part of the vehicle in case of damage.

Sixt rent a car recognize protections/waivers supplied by Sixt rent a car or by an Irish based Protection Company. Protections and covers issued by others will also be recognized if renter provides a letter from protection/cover provider specifically stating that cover is in place in Ireland for the booked vehicle. This letter must be from the providing protection agency or credit card company. If renter declines Waivers, Protections and Covers offered by Sixt rent a car and renter does not transfer cover by an Irish based Protection Company, foreign protection company or credit card company then renter personally assumes total financial responsibility for damage to or loss of the rental vehicle. In this instance, in order to establish appropriate security over the asset, the renter must provide a deposit to the full value of the vehicle.
