Aosta is located in the Valley with the same name in Italy. As the main city of the region, Aosta is one of the most valued communities of the Italian Alps. The city of Aosta is formed out of a bilingual community, which numbers 35,060 inhabitants. The historic settlement of Aosta dates back to the protohistoric era.

The Roman Theater is one of the numerous landmarks of the community in Aosta, which stands to represent its past. Out of the grandiose construction, only the southern facade remains today and measures 22 m tall. The theater was constructed in during Augustus' reign and covered a surface large enough to fit in 4,000 spectators. Other remains of historic sites can be seen in the area of the theater.

The Aosta Cathedral was initially built in the 4th century. Later on, in the 11th century, the old religious monument was replaced with another one of the same caliber dedicated to the Madonna. During the 15th and the 16th century, the construction suffered new modifications. Today, it presents a mixture of the original Romanesque style, which is visible in the clock towers and in the crypt, with Ottonian frescoes and a neoclassical style facade.

The Towers of the Ancient City are remains of the past in Aosta. There are 20 such monuments of history, which can be found throughout the city and also at the four main gates. Some of them have been very well preserved, while others have degraded over time. The dates of construction for these towers differ greatly, fact which is also visible in the style of the construction and in the state of degradation.

The Ancient Walls of Aosta used to be a part of the town of Augusta Praetoria Salassorum. Although they date back in history, these walls have remained in a great condition and they give the community a special feeling of ancient times even in these modern times. The walls form a rectangle 725 by 571 m, with a basis of 2.75 m thick and a top of 1.83 m thick.
