Piazza del Popolo is the center of the old town, but also of the general form of Ascoli Piceno. It is the main area from which the marble (travertino) buildings span throughout the city. The Piazza is seen as one of the most beautiful ones in Italy and it is the place in which tourists can admire the largest amount of landmark buildings part of the heritage of this Italian community. In the Middle Ages, there were 200 towers in the old town, out of which 50 can still be seen today.

The Cathedral of Saint Emidio is the most important religious monument of Ascoli Piceno. It is dedicated to Saint Emygdius. The most interesting part of the construction is the altarpiece, which was designed and constructed by Carlo Crivelli, a famous Italian Reconnaissance painter, who lived and worked in the city.

The Palazzo dei Capitani del Popolo was built in Ascoli Piceno in the 13th century. The construction was created on the basis of other three pre-existing edifices and became the seat of the people's captains, of the podesta. Later on, the Palazzo entered the occupation of the Papal governors. Over the years, numerous additions have enlarged the general structure of the old building.

The Porta Gemina is located in Ascoli Piceno. It is an old Roman gate of the city, which was built in the 1st century BC, so that Via Salaria could come through the area. The gate is one of the main symbols from the Roman past of the community. In addition to it, there is an old ancient theater nearby, that can be visited, but which only stands in some of its remaining ruins.
