Bari is the capital city of the province of Bari and of the Apulia, on the Adriatic Sea, in Italy. It is the second most important economic centre of mainland Southern Italy after Naples, and it is well known as a port and university city, as well as the city of Saint Nicholas. Modern residential zones surrounding the centre of Bari, the result of chaotic development during the 1960s and the 1970s replacing the old suburbs that had developed along roads. Bari is a wonderful place to visit, for its tourist attractions and lovely venues.

Basilica of Saint Nicholas was founded in Bari in 1087 to receive the relics of this saint, which were brought from Myra in Lycia, and now lie beneath the altar in the crypt, where are buried the Topins. The church is one of the four Palatine churches of Apulia.

Petruzzelli Theatre in Bari is one of the grandest opera houses in Italy after La Scala in Milan and the San Carlo Theatre in Naples. Host to many famous opera and ballet great throughout the 20th century, before the big arson of 1991, which destroyed it nearly all. The theatre has been rebuilt and it is fully functional.

Swabian Castle in Bari was built around 1131. The castle was erected by Frederick II Hohenstaufen and it now serves as a gallery for a variety of temporary exhibitions in the city. The castle is a wonderful place, where you can learn more interesting things about Italian history.

Pinacoteca Provinciale di Bari is one of the most important paintings museum in Puglia. The Museum was established in 1921 and here are some of the most important paintings from the 15th century to the contemporary art. The Pinacoteca was named in honour of the famous Italian painter Corrado Giaquinto.

Old Town of Bari is a sprawl of streets and passageways making up the section of the city to the north of the modern Murat area. The area is very bohemian, since it has a lot of pubs and entertainment venues, as well as many squares, where you can enjoy a refreshing beverage.
