Old Town Fossano is very rich in medieval, renaissance and baroque buildings. Castle of the Princes of Acaja is a beautiful, massive castle in Fossano that belonged to Filippo d'Acaja. He began building the castle in 1314 and finished it in 1332. The castle has a square plan with four big towers at each side, connected by passages with merlons. The beautiful inner courtyard was designed by Gaspar Solari, in the late 15th century. The castle served as jail and barracks. Nowadays, it is the seat of different cultural events and holds one of the biggest libraries in the region.
