The below T&Cs (including prices and taxes) are provided by Sixt and may change without notice to VroomVroomVroom.co.uk. 

This quote will include:

  • Selected Vehicle or similar
  • Unlimited Kilometers unless otherwise stated
  • Insurance coverage for the vehicle rented includes Third Party Liability with a maximum cover of 5,000,000 for damaged vehicle and unlimited liability for personal injuries. Insurance coverage is limited to Europe only.
  • Vehicle licensing fee

  • Complimentary Breakdown Service

This quote will not include:

  • Loss Damage Waiver
  • Rates for additional Drivers
  • Additional Equipment such as GPS, Baby Seats*
  • Age surcharge
  • Petrol
  • One-way drop off charges
  • Any Deposits needed when picking up the vehicle
  • Any extra charges for "out of hours" pick up and drop offs if applicable (£50)

Sixt Excess Reduction Guide

VroomVroomVroom.co.uk does not sell protection products or excess reduction packages, therefore any quotes/enquiries MUST be directed to Sixt.

  • Standard Liability from £1,000 - £1,500 (excluding local fees and surcharges)
  • Accident Excess Reduction - from £13 per day (excluding local fees and surcharges). This package reduces your liability to £0 (excluding local fees and surcharges).

Varies by age of renter, location, type of vehicle and rate. Note: ER does not cover certain loss or damage and cannot be waived in full. Please contact Sixt for further insurance information, specialty cars differ in excess. Subject to the Sixt Terms and Conditions.

General Rental Information

Identification Requirements

Depending on your country of permanent residence, we will require the following forms of identification from you at Vehicle pick-up. You must bring original proof of the required documents. Photocopies or other copies will not be accepted.

UK Residents

If you are living in the United Kingdom, in addition to a valid photo ID (passport, ID card, driving licence), you need to provide us with a proof of address (e.g. utility bill, bank statement) which is not older than 3 months at the time of vehicle pick-up.
Please note: If your method of payment is a debit card, we require two proofs of address as specified above.

Non-UK Residents

​If you are living outside the United Kingdom, in addition to your driving licence, we require a passport or ID card which is valid for a period of at least 3 months beyond the end of the Rental Period. There can be no visa exemptions in the Passport for the period of 6 months before the end of the Rental Period.

Driving Licence Requirements

You and all approved drivers must be in possession of a full, valid driving licence for at least one year. Furthermore, the following conditions apply depending on the issuing country of the driving licence.

UK Driving Licences

​In addition to your licence, either a valid and up to date DVLA licence check code or a printed DVLA endorsement record must be provided for all Approved Drivers. A valid DVLA code or printed endorsement can be obtained from the DVLA website (www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence). For the validity of the code, please refer to the DVLA guidelines. Drivers under 23 years of age must not have any endorsements on their licence. For drivers 23 years of age and older, the maximum number of points on the licence is 6. However, some endorsements on your licence may restrict your ability to drive the vehicle, even if you have 6 or less points on your licence. If you or any other driver have any endorsements on your licence, please contact our call centre on 08444 99 33 99 to check if you qualify to drive.

EU Driving Licences

​Valid driving licences of all other EU countries are accepted in the UK without further preconditions.

All Other Licences

​Driving licences printed with non-Roman Alphabet (Arabic, Japanese, and Cyrillic) must be accompanied by a valid International Driving Permit. 

Chinese driving licences, no International Driving Permit is required, however you must provide a valid translation form for the licence (available from the Sixt China Customer Service by contacting cs@sixt.cn)

Indian driving licences will require an International Driving Permit if the original licence does not contain a small electronic chip on the front of the card.

For all non-European licence holders, it is the responsibility of the renter to check whether an international Driving Permit is required.

Age Restrictions

Certain regulations apply related to minimum age and possession of driver's license which can be found during the booking process depending on the booked vehicle.

In Great Britain, the following rules apply for the minimum age and possession of a driver's licence:

  • 21 years/1 year for vehicles in groups  M***, E***, CB**, CD**, CF**, CL**, CW**
  • 23 years/1 year for vehicles in groups I***, CC** ​
  • 25 years/1 year for vehicles in groups S***, F***, P***,LD**, LW**, LS**, LT**
  • 25 years/3 years for vehicles in groups COMN, CNMN.
  • 30 years/3 years for vehicles in groups  X***, LPAR

Driving licence for vehicle groups COMN and CNMN must include approval for category D1. A Driver CPC certificate is required if COMN and CNMN are hired for commercial use. If you do not hold a British license but wish to rent a COMN or CNMN please call to check for any restrictions.

Non-EU citizens can drive vehicles with up to 9 passenger seats (FVMR).

A young driver surcharge applies for drivers under 25 years.

Young Driver Surcharge (for vehicle groups  M***, E***, CB**, CD**, CC**, CF**, CL**, CW**, CT**, I***) is GBP 36* per day. 

Vehicle groups not listed are not available for drivers under 23 years of age (see above).

Methods of Payment

The following methods of payment are accepted by Sixt in the UK. Any method of payment that is not mentioned below cannot be accepted.

Cash Payment is not accepted.

Credit Cards

All credit cards must be in the main renter's name. The following credit cards are accepted in the UK: American Express, Visa, Eurocard/Mastercard, Diner's Club, JCB, Discovery Card.

Debit Cards

​The following debit cards are accepted: American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Diners Club, JCB and Discover. 

We do not accept Maestro, V-Pay, pre-paid debit cards or Visa Electron cards. You can only rent vehicles in the following categories when your method of payment is a debit card: E***, C***, I***, S*** and F***.

Sixt Cards 

​All Sixt Cards, such as Sixt Express, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Unlimited and Corporate cards are only accepted in combination with a valid Credit Card and valid documents.

Vouchers

​For any voucher bookings, you need to present the original valid voucher. Along with the voucher, we will require your own credit card for any charges that are not covered by the voucher.

Debit Card Deposits

​The deposit amount is immediately debited from the cardholder's bank account and is held by us until the Rental Agreement is terminated and all rental charges are cleared. Unless you settle all rental charges on return of the vehicle you authorise us to allocate the monies held on deposit against such rental charges. We will refund you any excess held by us over the rental charges.

Credit Card Approvals

​The approval amount is not immediately debited but held on the cardholder's bank account until the final rental charge amount has been paid to us. When the Vehicle is returned, the invoiced amount will be charged to the credit card provided, unless you present another form of payment.

Prepaid tariff - Pay now

When booking at a prepaid rate, the payment will be charged along with the total rental price (incl. booked extras and charges) prior to the rental. The renter must be the owner of the indicated payment card. The named driver and the method of payment shall be finalised at the time of reservation and cannot be changed afterwards. The confirmed card should be valid and available for presentation on collection of the vehicle. All extra costs that occur during the car rental will be charged to this credit card. The maximum rental period for a booking at the prepaid rate is 27 days. A refund shall not be issued for non-collection, vehicle being collected late or returned early.

The booking may be changed up to one hour before the scheduled beginning of the rental period. There will be a rebooking fee of GBP 20.40 plus any difference between the original rate and the rate applicable to the adjusted rental period. A change from a prepaid rate to a non-prepaid rate is not possible.

Any payment already made towards the rental will not be refunded; nor shall any differential amount be refunded if this alteration leads to a lesser rental cost.

A booking can be cancelled before the start of the rental. In the event of cancellation, the payment already made towards the rental will be paid back subject to a cancellation charge. The cancellation charge shall be the amount of the rental charge (incl. booked extras and charges) for a maximum of 3 rental days. Cancellations can be made online or in writing and must be addressed to:

In the event that the booked vehicle is not collected or not collected at the agreed time, the rental charge already paid shall be withheld in full.

Protection conditions

Third party insurance

​Insurance coverage for the vehicle rented includes Third Party Liability. This protection provides cover for claims made against you in the event of the death or injury to the other party in an accident (unlimited liability). It also provides cover for damage to their property (up to 5,000,000 GBP). The hirer, as the main driver, will be responsible for any costs in excess of this in relation to third party damage.

Excluded from the insurance is the use of the vehicle for the transport of dangerous goods. All protection as part of the rental contract will become void, in particular, if an unauthorized driver has used the vehicle or if the driver of the vehicle does not possess the required driver's licence at the time of the event giving rise to claim.

Loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) 

Loss Damage Waiver removes the driver's responsibility to a part of the vehicle in case of damage or theft. LDW is mandatory in Great Britain unless the customer is from the US or Canada and has insurance cover through their own credit card.

If loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) is accepted, the customer is entitled, depending on the vehicle, to a deductible of GBP 1,000.00 to GBP 5,000.00. In addition, a reduction of the deductible is possible. You are only responsible for the damage to the vehicle up to the amount of the excess plus an administration fee, each time you damage the vehicle.

In the event of willful or grossly negligent damage caused, a claim on the agreed fully comprehensive cover (incl. theft cover) can be reduced or lapsed.

If no fully comprehensive cover (incl. theft cover) has been arranged, the leaser is responsible for all damage to the car not proven to be caused by a third party, and shall be liable for up to the full value of the vehicle.

Tyre and Glass Protection

The tyre and glass protection waives your responsibility in the event of damages to the tyres, windscreen, side windows, rear-window or mirror glass with a deductible of GBP 0.00.

If the protection is not accepted, the customer will be held liable for the full extent of the damage.

Roadside Protection

The roadside protection is an extended breakdown protection during the rental and protects you at home against high service and repair costs for the following incidents caused by you: key locked in vehicle, breaking caused by lack of fuel, assistance with starting necessitated by flat battery, loss of key and vehicle stuck.

All services may only be ordered by a direct claim with Sixt 24-hour Roadside Assistance. They shall also determine the type and extent of service required to ensure the renter stays mobile. If any damage to the rental vehicle occurs which is not covered by Sixt within the scope of the Roadside Protection, the renter is liable for such damage.

Cross Border Rentals & Territorial Restrictions

Territorial restrictions

Commercial vehicles, Passenger vehicles in P***, L***, X*** categories, MPV (8+ seats) and minibuses are not allowed to go overseas or abroad. ​

The vehicle selection can restrict travel to certain countries. For a description of these restrictions on admission, the countries are divided into three zones.

Zone 1: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain and Vatican

Zone 2: Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia

Zone 3: All countries which are not in zone 1 or 2.

Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi, Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mini are only allowed to enter Zone 1 countries (except of above mentioned car groups).​

Entry into any country in zone 3 is not permitted.

In case of offence against cross border and territorial restrictions all insurances lose their validity.

A foreign use charge applies for all rentals outside UK. This charge is 60% of the total rental cost.

One-Way Rentals

National

​One-way-rentals within Sixt locations in Great Britain are allowed under conditions depending on tarif.

For One-Way rentals with minibuses (COMN/CNMN) within Sixt Corporate locations in Great Britain a charge of £200.-applies.

Exceptions:

No One-Way Rentals with LDAR, LPAR, XDAL, XDAR, XPAR, XSAJ, XTAJ, XTAR, XFMR, XJAN, XSAR, XZAN, XSMR, convertibles and off-roaders allowed.

No One-Way Rentals from and to URG branches allowed.

In the case of unannounced and unauthorised one-way rentals, we reserve the right to charge an additional fee.

International one-way rentals are not allowed.

Navigation systems are guaranteed to be available if a booking is made.

If a booking is not made, this is dependent on availability.

Vehicle refueling

If desired, the vehicle will be refueled according to currently available conditions after returning it to the station.

Please note, that in case of refuelling a service fee will apply.

Alternatively, you may purchase a full tank of fuel at the time of rental at a price that is competitive with local fuel stations and return the tank empty. No refunds will be given for unused fuel.

Transfer reimbursement

Where the customer is required to transfer from the advertised Sixt branch to another nearby branch, the transfer cost will be refunded up on arrival at the Sixt branch. A maximum amount of £10 will be refunded.

Delivery and collection

No Delivery/Collection Service is offered.

Premium location fee

A premium location fee  of 20,00 % (on the non-reduced total rental amount) ​occurs for rentals at airport and train stations.

Out of opening hours

Out of opening hours service is available at selected stations. In this case, an additional charge of GBP 102.00 maximum applies for the provision of the service.

Registration fee / Road tax

There will be a road tax of GBP 1.68 per day (GBP 33.60 max. month) which is included in the rent.

Congestion Charge

There are some cities in the UK, for example London and Durham, that charge congestion fees for driving in and through them. The renter is responsible for checking the congestion terms and is liable for the payment of such fees. For rentals commencing from a branch within a Congestion Zone, the Congestion Charge will automatically be applied to the rental agreement to cover the first day of hire. You will remain liable for the payment of congestion fees for any other additional days. 

In case of non or late payment, additional fees may be incurred which the renter will be liable for. An administration fee of 36.00 GBP will apply for every transaction handled by Sixt.

The congestion charge (charge code C ) is only bookable at the station!

It shall not be sold at the call centre!

Traffic Fines / Driving Penalties

The renter is liable for the payment of all charges, penalties and fines incurred in connection with the use of the vehicle. Payment of Toll fees are also in the responsibility of the driver. Drivers will be liable to pay all penalties/fines related to late, or nonpayment of a traffic offence. An administration fee of 36.00 GBP will apply for every transaction handled by Sixt.

​General Rental Information

Important documents

​There are documents/cards that you must bring when collecting the vehicle: - A full driving license (GB mainland customers must include the printed endorsement record or the code obtained from DVLA website: www.gov.uk/view-driving-license) for all named drivers, with details of all endorsements. Northern Ireland driving licence must bring your counterpart. If you have 6 points or below on your license you can still hire from us. If you have above 6 points or have a AC, BA, TT, NE, CD, IN, LC, MS, UT, DD, DG, DR or XX endorsement that is within less than 5 years you are not able to hire from us. International driving permits must be accompanied by the national driving license. - A credit card in the lead drivers name with sufficient funds to cover your chosen excess amount. The credit card will require a pin number to leave a pre-authorisation. - A passport or other government issued ID.

Driving Licences issued in UK, EU, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Singapore, Hong Kong, Belarus, Bermuda, Bosnia, Israel, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia and Turkey are accepted in Northern Ireland.  Licenses from countries not listed may be accepted provided you have contacted Sixt Northern Ireland Customer Services (customerservices@sixtni.co.uk) to gain pre-approval from our insurance company to drive in Northern Ireland. This will need to be done a minimum of 48 hours prior to your rental start date during Customer Services operating hours (Mon to Fri 09:00 to 16:30). Please e-mail customerservices@sixtni.co.uk with the following:  

  • Copy of domestic license front and back 
  • Copy of International Driving Permit (IDP) or Certified translation into English for Chinese License 
  • Evidence of driving in the UK, at least 14 days in the last year  
  • Your upcoming Sixt reservation number 
  • Insurance Referral Authorisation code 

Driving Licences printed with non-Roman Alphabet (Arabic, Japanese, and Cyrillic) must be accompanied by a valid International Driving Permit. For Chinese driving licences, no International Driving Permit is required, however a Self-Translation Form provided by Sixt must be presented with the original license.  Link to Self-Translation Form​ 

We reserve the right to decline a reservation if the approval is not given or the customer fails to meet with the rental conditions. In addition, we will undertake to refund the customer in the event they get declined.

You agree that we may elect, at our discretion, to pass your reservation to another business with whom we have a referral arrangement in place. You agree that, if we do so, we act as agent for that other business. This means that when we pass your reservation over to that other business: 

(a) we will have no further obligation to you; and 

(b) your agreement for the rental of the vehicle will be with the other company and not with us. 

(c) Deposits will be obtained by the other business before the vehicle is hired. The deposit amount will not exceed the excess value. 

(d) Minimum age requirements and protection excess amounts may differ

Please be advised that in the event of a fault-accident, we do not refund unused days.

The minimum age for UK licence holders is 21 years (having held the driving license for at least 3 years). A deviation from the minimum age is possible depending on the vehicle. UK licence holders aged 21 to 24 years old, must have a license free from Endorsement. In Northern Ireland, the following rules apply for the minimum age and possession of a driver's license:

Tariff information

General

All credit cards from internationally recognised credit card companies - such as American Express, Eurocard/Mastercard, Visa, Airplus, British Maestro and VISA Debit are acceptable as payment methods whereas any other prepaid cards, debit cards (Visa Electron/Maestro) or Switch/Solo cards are not accepted. The payment method must have been issued in the name of the driver. This must be presented at the time of vehicle pick-up and be valid at this time.

Debit cards may be used for payment of rental charges only. Debit cards may not be used to cover the deposit, unless the Super Top Cover has been purchased.

Sixt Car Express Service card (Advantage Circle) is only accepted in combination with a valid Credit Card.

Cash Payment is not accepted.

Please note, that payments with credit card will require the PIN of the credit card.

An advance charge approval is obtained for the chosen means of payment as a security. The exact deposit is determined on collection since the amount is dependent on the vehicle.

Before a vehicle is hired, we always obtain an approval of the amount of the rental cost, the excess applicable plus a maximum of GBP 100 fuel deposit.

Special rental information when booking Prepaid rates

Prepaid tariff - Pay now

When booking at a prepaid rate, the payment will be charged along with the total rental price (incl. booked extras and charges) prior to the rental. The driver and mode of payment shall be finalised at the time of reservation and cannot be changed. The confirmed credit card should be valid and available for presentation on collection of the vehicle. All extra costs that occur during the car rental will be charged to this credit card. A refund shall not be issued for non-collection, vehicle being collected late or returned early.

Changing booking

A booking can be changed up to 48 hours before the start of the rental (on availability) in return for an alteration charge of 20.00 GBP. Any payment already made towards the rental will not be refunded; nor shall any differential amount be refunded if this alteration leads to a lesser rental cost.

Cancellation

A booking can be cancelled before the start of the rental. In the event of cancellation, the payment already made towards the rental will be paid back subject to a cancellation charge. The cancellation charge shall be the amount of the rental charge ( including any extras and charges) for a maximum of 3 rental days. No-show

In the event that the booked vehicle is not collected or not collected at the agreed time, the rental charge already paid shall be withheld in full.

Protection conditions

Excluded from the protection is the use of the vehicle for the transport of dangerous goods. Same applies in the case of deviation of the usual vehicle uses (e.g. overloading) or with personal failure of the driver (e.g. alcohol and/or drug consumption). All protection as part of the rental contract will become void, in particular, if an unauthorized driver has used the vehicle or if the driver of the vehicle does not possess the required driver's licence at the time of the event giving rise to claim.

Third Party Insurance (TI)

Insurance coverage for the vehicle rented includes Third Party Liability with a maximum cover of GBP 5,000,000 for damaged vehicle and unlimited liability for personal injuries. Insurance coverage is limited to Europe only.

Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)

Loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) removes the drivers responsibility to a part of the vehicle in case of damage or theft.

If loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) is accepted, the customer is only responsible for the following amounts:

LDW is mandatory in Northern Ireland unless the customer is from the US or Canada and has insurance cover through their own credit card.

US and Canadian customers must provide an insurance cover letter from their credit card company that confirms they will cover the total value of the Sixt Vehicle, cover Northern Ireland also cover theft of the vehicle. We may pre authorise a proportion of the value of the vehicle for security purposes. Deposit amounts will be processed in conjunction with our current excess levels:

Glass and Windscreen Coverage (TG)

The glass and windscreen coverage provides protection for damages on windscreen, side windows, rear window and mirror glass with a deductible of GBP 0.00.

Damages to the vehicle's tyres will be charged directly to the client, and are not covered by any Coverage.

If the protection is not accepted, the customer will be held liable for the full extent of the damage.

Roadside protection

The roadside protection is an extended breakdown protection during the rental and protects you at home and abroad against high service and repair costs for the following incidents caused by you: key locked in vehicle, breaking caused by lack of fuel, assistance with starting necessitated by flat battery and vehicle stuck.

All services may only be ordered by a direct claim with Sixt Northern Ireland. We will determine the type and extent of service required to ensure the client can continue the journey. If any damage on the rental vehicle occurs, which is not covered by Sixt within the scope of the Roadside Protection, the renter is liable for such damage.

Cross border rentals and territorial restrictions​​

A written permission issued by the Sixt branch is mandatory to cross the border.

For the written permission a charge of 12.00 GBP per day, max. 24.00 GBP per 28 days applies.

Vehicles may be taken into the Republic of Ireland by paying a foreign use charge but must not leave the island of Ireland.

If vehicles leave the island of Ireland a fine of 500.00 GBP applies.

If vehicles leave Northern Ireland without paying a foreign use charge a fine of 250.00 GBP applies.

You can only add written permission at time of pick up or by returning the car to any Sixt location in Northern Ireland and signing a new rental agreement. You cannot add this cover over the phone or e-mail. We reserve the right not to authorise one- way rentals either to the Republic of Ireland (Dublin airport only) or any other Sixt branch in Northern Ireland after pick up.

In case of offence against Cross Border & Territorial Restrictions all protections lose their validity.

One-way rentals

One-way rentals within Sixt locations in Northern Ireland are allowed under conditions depending on tariff.

It's not allowed to drive rental cars and vans in Great Britain or take them off the island of Ireland. A written permission is required to travel to Republic of Ireland by the rented car.

For One-Way rentals Northern Ireland / Dublin Airport a charge of 120.00 GBP applies. Separately a fee for the written permission for cross border rentals applies, so the total cost to drop off the rental car at Dublin airport is 144.00 GBP

One-way rentals from Northern Ireland to Dublin Airport only will be accepted at time of pick up.

Countries not listed are prohibited for One-Way Rentals.

No One-Way Rentals from, to and between URG and Nexus branches allowed.

Navigation system

Navigation systems are available subject to a fee.

Additional Driver

A charge is levied for the additional driver, whose details are noted in the lease only if the additional driver presents a valid driver's license.

Baby and child seats

Baby seats, child seats and booster seats are available subject to a fee.

Vehicle refuelling

All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel and should be refilled prior to return to Sixt, otherwise the current prices per litre of petrol or diesel will be charged in addition to a refuelling fee.

If desired, the vehicle will be refuelled according to currently available conditions after returning it to the station.

Alternatively, you may purchase a full tank of fuel at the time of rental at a price that is competitive with local fuel stations and return the tank empty. No refunds will be given for unused fuel.

Administration Fee For Fine

The renter is liable for payment of all traffic/parking fines occurring during the rental.

If the renter has a traffic/parking fine during the rental the renter will be charged an Administration Fee together with the first settlement-proposition.

Should a customer require official damage and repair documentation an administration fee per damage claim will apply.

M50 Motorway Electronic Tolls

Tolls are automatically charged to the rental vehicle on M50 Motorway only. The renter should make payments for these tolls via www.eflow.ie. Sixt will charge the amount incl. administration fee to the renter if they do not pay their toll charges.
If the renter pays the toll directly, the receipt must be provided to Sixt on return.

Smell-Removal-Fee

All Northern Ireland Sixt cars are non-smoking cars. If a car needs additional cleaning/smell-removal caused by smoking, a cleaning charge will apply in addition to the days on which the car cannot be used.

Vehicle Cleaning

In case the car requires a special cleaning procedure (i.e. animal pollution, spill of liquids etc.) after returning, a cleaning charge will apply in addition to the days on which the car cannot be used.
