National Terms & Conditions

The below T&Cs (including prices and taxes) are provided by National and may change without notice to VroomVroomVroom.co.uk.
These terms and conditions are applicable to National rentals in the UK for Residents of UK ONLY.

This quote will include:

  • Third Party Liability
  • Road Fund Licence
  • Any airport fees and VAT
  • Generally unlimited mileage, unless otherwise stated

This quote will not include:

  • Any Administration Fee & Airport Concession Fee (if applicable) will be added to any extra charges and optional extras nominated at the time of rental
  • Damage Waiver or Excess Reduction - please see our below terms and conditions for further details.
  • Child Seats or booster seats from £10.80 per day (can be purchased after confirmation)
  • Cross border travel charges, or extra kilometre travel when applicable
  • Age surcharge.
  • Additional driver fees
  • GPS units
  • Any extras signed up for upon arrival, eg. Vehicle snow equipment.
  • Any deposits -the deposit is £200 GBP, £500 GBP if renting a Premium/ Elite vehicle, £1,000 if renting a Convertible/Executive vehicle.
  • One way fees. One way rentals are not available at all depots.
Important Notes:
  1. All extra add-ons will attract additional percentage taxes and surcharges.
  2. Customers who are renting with a debit card can no longer rent a premium or 4x4 vehicle, a credit card will need to be put down for the deposit and payment where applicable.

Licence

  • All drivers must meet the location's minimum age requirements.
  • All drivers must hold a full, valid national license.
  • All drivers must have held a full UK driving licence. Photo driving licence must be shown (where applicable).
  • Renters with only a paper license must also show photo ID in the form of a Valid Passport, Armed Forces ID Card or a Police Warrant Card. No other form of Photo ID is acceptable.
  • All renters with a UK home address paying on a debit card will need to pass an Online Address Check as verification of residence at their given address. Any customer failing the check will not be allowed to rent.
UK Nationals residing overseas are advised to use a driving license of the country in which they reside or they will be subject to the above.

Overseas Licence: International driving permit is required with all non-European licences if the driving licence is written in a language or characters different from those of the renting country. Even when an International Driving License is required, a domestic licence must be provided.

UK residents that hold a non-EU license may drive in the UK for up to 12 months from the time they become a resident. After 12 months, the overseas licence will be deemed illegal in the UK and it must be exchanged for the UK equivalent. A renter holding a non-EU licence must produce a full valid passport at the time of rental and the reservation name must match the name on the driving licence.
Please note, we reserve the right to request additional ID or conduct further identification checks if needed which may include an identity check with an external credit organisation.

Payment Policy

  • All major Credit and Debit cards (excluding Prepaid, Solo, Visa Electron, Diners Club and all unembossed maestro/debit/credit cards) are accepted.
  • On collection of the vehicle, a £200.00 security deposit will be charged to your card, £500 deposit is required on all premium rentals.
  • On acceptable return of the vehicle, the security deposit will be credited. Payment is not accepted by either Cash or Cheque.
  • All Credit and Debit cards used for payment/deposit must be in the name of the renter.
  • Premium and 4x4s can not be rented using a debit card.

Forms of Payment

All major debit and credit cards (issued by either Visa, Mastercard or American Express) are accepted. All cards presented must be in the renter’s name. A security deposit plus the estimated cost of the rental will be taken at the time of rental.​

Cash, checks, prepaid cards, Diners Club and Discover Card are not accepted.​

For the car categories Mini, Economy, Compact, Standard and Cargo Vans a deposit of 200 GBP is required. These vehicles may be rented with a debit or credit card. Small and Large Passenger Vans, Compact Elite, SUVs and Premium vehicles require a deposit of 500 GBP. For Luxury and Executive vehicles, a deposit of 1000 GBP applies. A credit card is mandatory to rent these vehicles.​

Debit Cards

Debit cards are accepted. SUVs, Passenger Vans and Cars of the categories Elite, Fullsize, Premium, Luxury and Executive require a credit card. Renters with residence in the UK who wish to use a debit card will need to pass an online address check as verification of residence at their given address. Any customer failing the check will not be allowed to rent.

Renters who wish to use a debit card must have residence in Northern Ireland, hold a Northern Irish driving license and provide proof of employment with a pay slip that must be less than 90 days old.

Airports Only - Debit cards are accepted at the time of rental with a round trip plane ticket or flight itinerary that shows the renter's name and discloses the return date. Debit cards are not accepted from local customers. Local renters must present a valid credit card in the renter's name. If using a payment source registered outside of the United Kingdom, this location cannot be responsible for any fluctuations in the currency exchanges while the deposit is being held.

Renter Requirements

All drivers must present a full valid driving license. If the driving license is written in a language and characters different to those of the country of rental, an International Driving Permit is also required. Renters are advised to check whether local authorities require foreign drivers to present an International Driving Permit to avoid the risk of potential fines. Renters with licenses from countries who are not part of the International Driving Permit Agreement should carry a certified translation.

All renters must produce a valid photo ID such as driving license, passport or ID card. Visitors to the UK must also provide proof of return travel and accommodation information while in the UK.

Please note that we reserve the right to request additional ID or conduct further identification checks if needed which may include an identity check with an external organisation.

Inclusive Rates

Total charges include unlimited mileage, damage waiver with an excess including theft protection, third party liability, road fund license, and VAT. Additional protection products are available. Mileage restriction may apply. Additional surcharges may apply. ​

Exclusive Rates

Rates include unlimited mileage, and third party liability for one driver.

Total charges include unlimited mileage, third party liability, road fund license and VAT. Damage waiver is not included and must be taken unless alternative coverage can be verified at the time of rental. Additional protection products may be purchased.​

Excess Protection

Excess Protection (EP) is an optional coverage that reduces the applicable deductible. If EP is not included in the reservation, it is available for purchase at the rental counter. Before purchasing EP it is advised to determine, if a personal coverage is adequate to cover damage, theft, loss of revenue, administration fees, diminishment of value, and any towing, storage or impound fees. If EP is declined, the renter will be required to pay these charges and seek compensation through their carrier of personal coverage. EP is not insurance.​

Rates include unlimited mileage, damage waiver, and third party liability for one driver. The following excesses apply:


£1000.00 for groups MBMN/MBMR (A group), ECMN/EBMR (B group), EDMR/CCMR (C group), CDMR (D group), and IDMR (E group) SDMR/SDMD (F group), ECAN/EBAR (B auto), EDAR/CCAR (C auto), CDAR (D auto), IDAR (E Auto) and SDAR/SDAD (F auto).

£1150.00 for groups SVMR/IVMR (MMPV), SVAR/IVAR (MMPVA) FVMR (MPV), FVAR (MPV auto), IKMN (small cargo van), LVMR/SKMN (medium cargo van), and FKMN (large cargo van).

£1,400.00 for groups PDMR (Small Prem Man), PDAR (Small Prem Auto), LDMR (Medium Prem Man) LDAR (Medium Prem Auto), IFAR (Small 4x4 Man) IFAR (Small 4x4 Auto) and FFMR (Large 4x4 Man), FFAR (Large 4x4 Auto) LVMR/MVMR (9 seater MPV) and LVAR/MVAR (9 seater auto MPV).

£3000.00 for groups (XFMR/XFAR) Executive SUV (Range Rover Sport)​, (PBMR/PBAR) Executive Premium (Jaguar F-Type)​, (PTMR/PTAR) Premium Convertible (Mercedes E-Class)​ and (XDMR/XDAR) Special Premium (Mercedes CLS)​.

The Damage Waiver excess can be voluntarily reduced at the National branch on arrival by purchasing Excess Protection. Rates vary and will be clarified at the time of purchase. Any charges agreed do not form a part of any agreed relationship with the customer and are non refundable by National Rent-A-Car.​

Additional Driver

Additional drivers are charged at £15.60* per day or £109.20* per week (maximum of £156.00* per rental) at National Home City.

​Additional drivers are charged at £18.33* per day or £128.31* per week (maximum of £183.30* per rental) at National Airport.

Additional drivers must meet all renter requirements. Additional drivers can be added to the rental agreement if they visit any rental location and present their driving licence. A daily surcharge will apply.​

Home City & Non De-planing Airport Renter Underwriting

Residents of the UK: All Home City & Non deplaning renters will need to provide at the time of rental a full driving licence, two proofs of address no less than two months old and a Credit/Debit Card in the renter's name.

Non Residents of the UK: All Home City & Non deplaning renters will need to provide at the time of rental a full driving licence, travel documents which include proof of residency whilst in the UK, Passport & Credit Card in the renter's name. All renters with a UK home address will need to pass an Equifax eIDVerifier as verification of residence at their given address. Any customer failing the check will not be allowed to rent.

Child Seats

Child seats are on request and not available in all locations. Customers will be required to fit the child seat themselves. ​

Baby seats, child seats and booster seats cost £10.80* per day or £75.60​* per week (maximum of £89.35* per rental​) at National Home City.

Baby seats, child seats and booster seats cost £12.69* per day or £88.83​* per week (maximum of £104.99* per rental​) at National Airport.​

GPS Navigation Device

GPS units are on request and not available in all locations.

GPS costs £11.34* per day or £79.35* per week (maximum of £107.61* per rental) at National Home City.

​GPS costs £13.32* per day or £93.24* per week (maximum of £126.44* per rental) at National Airport.

Grace Period

One rental day is a complete or partial period of 24 consecutive hours from the start of the rental period. On return, a grace period of 29 minutes will be applied if the 24-hour period is exceeded before an extra day applies. Beyond this grace period, an additional day at the local rate will be charged.

After Hours

Vehicles can typically only be rented and returned within the official opening hours. Please contact the local rental branch to enquire about possible after-hours rentals and returns.​​

Maximum Length of Rental

There is no maximum length of rental, however the customer will have to go to a local branch every 28 days to have the condition of the vehicle checked.​

One Way Rentals

All rentals where the vehicle is not returned to the same location as it is collected will be subjected to a one-way fee of £60.00 per rental at National Home City and £70.50 per rental / £247.00 BFS-DUB ​at ​National Airport.

One way rentals are allowed within all of the UK, including Northern Ireland.​

Cross Border Policy

​Vehicles can be driven in Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Travels to Europe mainland are not permitted.

The local branch requires a 48-hour notice period to arrange cross border travel. The notice period refers to two full business days between Monday and Friday. Please note there is a charge of £125 per rental to cross the border. ​

Customers must always inform the rental branch of their intention to leave the country with the vehicle and require authorisation. Additional charges apply.

Refueling

Renters must return the vehicle with the same fuel level as at the time of pick up.

If the renter does not choose to purchase an optional fuel product at the start of the rental period and does not return the vehicle with the same level of fuel as at the start of the rental period (as indicated on the Rental Agreement) the renter will be required to pay for the fuel needed to return to the fuel level displayed on the rental agreement at the prices displayed at the branch, plus a refueling charge of 6 GBP.

Unused or excess fuel will not be refunded.

Delivery and Collection

Please contact the local rental branch to enquire about delivery and collection. Additional charges will apply.​​

Roadside Assistance

Emergency contact details for 24 hour roadside assistance can be found on the rental contract. Dependant on the circumstances, we reserve the right to not replace the vehicle and pass on specific repair/callout charges to the customer.

Roadside Assistance Protection

Roadside Assistance Protection (RAP) is an optional 24-hour emergency service including tyre and glass repair or replacement costs except when part of a larger repair, replacement keys costs and all recovery and call out charges as result of a fault caused by the renter.

RAP does not apply if there is a breach of the rental agreement or if a wrong fuel type is used. The renter pays a flat-rate fee that covers all roadside assistance services. Before purchasing RAP, it is advised to determine if a personal coverage is adequate to cover these charges. If RAP is declined, the renter will be required to pay any applicable charges and seek compensation from the carrier of personal coverage. RAP is not insurance.

RAP is charged from £6.00* to £12.00*​ per day at National Home City

RAP is charged from £7.05* to £14.10*​ per day at National Airport.
